Minnesota is the Place for Me
I am a true-blue Minnesotan, born and raised here, and I have lived here all my life. I absolutely love the changing of the seasons.
Yes, I agree that sometimes the winters can be hard, with temperatures sometimes reaching the sub-zero mark and the wind chills dipping to 30 and 40 degrees below zero. What do we do on those days? We have learned that piling on layers of clothing works best. It’s definitely a life style that we have learned to live with. And drinking hot liquids such as hot chocolate and snuggling underneath quilts do help, that’s for sure. But then again, watching the big fluffy snowflakes fall gently from the skies above is quite a sight to see, and it’s a sight that I would truly miss if I lived somewhere that didn’t receive snow. I think I would definitely miss that lovely sight.
And then there’s the spring time, when all the snow finally melts away, and the green buds peek their heads above ground and begin to bloom – the daffodils, tulips, and iris. That’s when you know that spring has finally arrived. It’s truly such a joyful time. The birds finally come home and begin to sing their happy bird song high in their nests in the trees. The squirrels are scampering in the branches above us, fighting over their nuts once again. And at our house, we know that spring has finally arrived when the apple tree which hangs over our deck blossoms, just in time for Mother’s Day. Who doesn’t love the spring time?
The spring gives way to summer, with her warmer days and nights. We celebrate those days with family picnics, days on the beach, fishing and camping trips, hikes, family get-togethers at my sister’s lake home at Mille Lacs Lake, lazy days on our deck, and just being together outside. Granted, we do have our share of summer storms and some tornado warnings, but we place those in the “excitement” category, and we’re used to it.  It just means another trip to the basement, as far as we’re concerned. Besides, I don’t mind a good summer storm every now and then, as long as my family is safe while the lightning flashes and the thunder booms.
And then comes my favorite season of all – autumn. I absolutely love autumn. I love the way that Mother Nature paints the leaves on the trees with splashes of red, orange, gold, yellow, brown, and tan. It’s such a beautiful sight. And I love the way that the autumn air smells – crisp and bold to the nostrils. And I love the sound of autumn. I love the way the autumn leaves sound as you walk through them with their crunch and crinkle beneath your feet. And to me, autumn is the perfect temperature. All you need to wear is just a light jacket. Yes, I love the feel of the light autumn breeze on my face. Sometimes I wish that autumn would go on forever because it’s so beautiful. I’m always a bit sad when the first snowfall comes and I have to say good-bye to autumn.
So you see, there’s really no other place that I’d rather be than Minnesota. There’s no beach, no mountain, no forest, no island, no place else that can compare. Just Minnesota for me. Give me Minnesota and I will be happy. Only Minnesota for me. Minnesota. That’s my home.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: Â ”
I grew up in Minnesota and everyone is so nice there. It’s like Fargo. Everyone’s so chipper and you make friends just grocery shopping. We kill each other with kindness.” Â ~ Seann William Scott

All I know is Minnesotans are a hardy bunch! We can recognize them when they get here–wearing shorts and tees in winter while the rest of us freeze. 😉 This past winter was one of the coldest we’ve ever had. Your photos are beautiful, the autumn colors so brilliant. Thanks for the blog follow.

Hee-Hee! I love what you say about Minnesotans wearing shorts and tees in the winter! It is so true! I guess we’re just sensitized to the cold. We must have thicker skin, I guess! 🙂 And it’s my pleasure to follow you! I hope you have a marvelous day and rest of the week!

Your description of Minnesota sounds wonderful. I have a good friend who lived there many years but recently moved to Indiana. I’ve only been there once but never left the airport so didn’t get to see much!

G’day Cindy,
Beautiful dedication to your world, you almost make me sorry I was dreading our Autumn that arrived eighteen days ago,Summer is my time of the year, albeit we were cheated our of our usual scorcher this time around, so I wasn’t ready for the cool season to arrive, but that being said, I do like your attitude every season has it’s own glorious visuals. I will try to concentrate on them as the chill descends on us down-under 😉

I’m still trying to get back on my feet, so I’ve yet to get over to everyone else’s blogs, but I’m working at it, slowly but surely. Thanks so kindly for your lovely words. You’re always such a bright spot in my day!

There is certainly something to be said for the changing of the seasons, the beauty of the sun sparkling on the snow. I grew up in Northern Michigan and am now in Texas. I miss the winters, never thinking that I would. If they were only shorter… Your photos are beautiful, especially the fall photo. I can smell fall, feel the chill in the air, and hear the crunch of crispy leaves beneath my feet.

My brother-in-law now lives in Austin, TX and loves it there. I don’t think he misses the winters anymore. I do so love the fall and would definitely miss it if I couldn’t see the changing of the colors because that’s my favorite season of all.

Just for interest’s sake:
I also have roots in MN. My mother’s Harmon grandparents came from Elk River (County?); Mora & Ogilvie were two towns they lived at or near. Nine of their ten children were born there, including my grandpa. Then the family immigrated to Saskatchewan, but I think there are still Harmons in MN.
My husband’s grandparents farmed near Pipestone and Dad grew up there before they came to Canada. We’ve been through your state a number of times and it is beautiful.

Oh yes, I know Elk River, Mora, and Ogilvie, and have been to all those towns. Elk River is very close to where I live, which is Blaine, MN. It’s a small world, isn’t it?

Rereading my great-grandparents’ data in the family book, I see James Harmon was born at Elk River, moved to Mora as an adult.

Minnesota is so wonderful with her changing of the seasons. And even though it does get awfully cold sometimes in the winter, it’s so beautiful also in the winter. And the rest of the rest of the year makes up for it totally. I just love it here and would never want to live anywhere else. It’s nice to vacation elsewhere for awhile, but I’d never want to live anywhere else.
