I’m Going to Miss “U”
I positively love every single word that we speak, and as a writer, I know it’s going to be a very demanding task to write this blog post and eliminate a letter of the alphabet at the same time, especially a vowel; however, I’m going to give it a whirl. Let’s see how I do!
It seems to me that every letter of the alphabet is as important as the next one; otherwise they’d not have been allocated there by the creators in the first place, right? Well, at least that is my modest opinion.
Here’s a little history. Please let me inform everyone that the alphabet goes all the way back to the second millennial B.C. It can be traced to ancient Egypt; however, the first real alphabet comes from the Greek alphabet, which was adapted from the Phoenicians. The alphabet which is practiced mostly today is the Latin alphabet. As one can tell from reading the sentences which have gone before this, I adore history, so I can’t help myself by mentioning a few facts!
As for myself, in writing this blog entry so far, I have been laboring over my laptop trying so hard not to type the vowel that I will not type; however, it has been very hard, to say the least. I have been looking at words in the book that gives synonyms (I’m positive that one knows which book I’m speaking of) so that I will be able to not type that certain vowel. Is that cheating? I hope not!
I am finding that I am very limited in my writing by not being able to type that certain vowel that I’ve been trying to avoid; it has been very trying, indeed! I don’t think that I like being limited in this fashion, and I certainly hope that this vowel is not eliminated from the alphabet, for I think that if it is, it will be a sad day, indeed.
And think of how sad it might be for the children when they sing the “Alphabet Song.” Why, the entire song will have to be revised! They’d have to skip over that letter, and I don’t think the song will ever be the same again.
Besides that, I rather like that there are 26 letters of the alphabet. I was born on the 26th day of the eighth month of the year. So as anyone can see, I can’t name the month – it has the vowel that I can’t name, right? And I like that it is even, not odd.
Okay, I think I’m finished. Finally. Thank goodness. Now give me back my vowel. I rather like my letter . . .

Wouldn’t it have been nice to have a buzzer sound each time you used that letter that you didn’t want to use? It would have made things so much easier, don’t you think? 🙂

Yes, it is difficult; however, it is such good practice, isn’t it? And you know what they say: “Practice makes perfect.” Right? Not that I’ll ever be perfect, but at least it’s something to aspire to. 🙂

Thanks so much for catching that one for me. Goodness, I thought for sure I had proofread it better than that, but I guess those little “u’s” were just too sneaky for me. If I said it was because I had insomnia last night, would that be a good enough excuse? Okay, okay, okay. No excuses. But it was a good try, wasn’t it? But it’s true, I didn’t get enough sleep last night. 🙂 Anyway, I have fixed my mistakes.
But I am grateful for all my blogging buddies helping me with this entry, and please, please, if you find any more errors, my friends, do let me know. As I said before, I want it to be perfect, and I appreciate all your help.

Well, I didn’t want to say anything because I didn’t want to sound critical, but you use the word “particular” two more times in the paragraph starting with “I am finding…” and the word “you” in the paragraph after the video. 🙂

Oh my goodness! Do you know what I am doing right now – after reading this last comment of yours? I am laughing hysterically! Yes, it’s true! I can tell you one thing, though – I am going to bed early tonight, that is for sure! 🙂 There are actually tears streaming down my face because I am laughing myself silly. I thought I had been so careful. I hope we don’t have a prompt like this for a long time.
Actually though, it has been rather fun. And just what do I think is so much fun about this, you may ask? I will tell you, since you have asked. 🙂 The fun comes in the way you have all been kind enough to help me. The fun comes in your willingness to actually take time out of your busy schedules so that I can make my blog entry even better, and I think that this says a lot for our blogging community, and it speaks volumes about the people who make up this wonderful community.

And — if you find any more “U’s” that have gone astray, be sure to let me know. I’m ready to lasso them and lead them right out of my entry, just like all the others that weren’t supposed to be in there.

I was watching to see which letter you were omitting, as I found all but the x. You used ‘u’ in the words “equally’ and ‘would’ (lines 4 & 5.)
It’s because of our propensity for a ‘u’ with our ‘q’ that we must have, or eliminate, both letters. However, Apart from those two words — easily changeable — you did a great job.

Hi Christine! See – even though I must have proofread my entry at least five times, I still missed the “u” (pardon the pun) – get it? 🙂 It really is so difficult not to use a certain letter of the alphabet, especially if it’s a vowel, isn’t it?
But thanks so much for bringing it to my attention, because as you can see, I have now edited my entry, and because of you there are now NO “U’s” in my blog entry; or at least, I hope not. If you do happen to find any more, please do let me know.
